Raspberry Pi competitor powered by Freescale dual-core

A range of mini computer modules is likely to capitalise on the trend for affordable embedded computing started by Raspberry Pi and Arduino.

Designed by SolidRun of Israel, the modules, dubbed HummingBoard, Ā are built around theĀ Freescale i.MX6 processorĀ based on the ARM Cortex-A9 architecture.

There is a $45 module with aĀ 1GHz single-core processor,Ā graphics support for OpenGL and 512 MB of DDR3 RAM.

ProgramĀ storageĀ is on a microSD for loading the Ubuntu, Android or freeBSD operating system.

A second more powerful module is a more serious professional development board. It has a dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM.

Graphics are improved and SolidRun has added mini-PCIe, mSATA II Ā andĀ Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.Ā There is also an LVDS display outputĀ and an IR receiver.

SolidRun also offers the CuBox-i range of micro computers which run Android Jelly Bean or Linux also with a $45 price tag.
