Digi-Key and Mouser accepting orders for Raspberry Pi rival

Distributors Digi-Key and Mouser are taking orders for “Raspberry Pi competitor” the BeagleBone Black $45 computer based around a 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor.

The BeagleBone Black board is aimed at educational, hobbyist and professional designers and is the brainchild of the TI-backed BeagleBoard.org organisation.  Digi-Key and Mouser accepting orders for Raspberry Pi rival

The latest in the BeagleBoard line of development boards, BeagleBone Black, features numerous improvements over the previous iteration.

It has an upgraded 1GHz Sitara AM335x ARM Cortex-A8 processor from Texas Instruments, 512 MB DDR3 system memory, reduced power consumption, and the addition of HDMI connectivity, among other improvements.

“During our years of collaboration, Digi-Key has demonstrated a distinctive ability to swiftly and efficiently market and distribute the BeagleBoard line to their extensive customer base,” said Jason Kridner, co-founder, BeagleBoard.org.

“Their support has been a vital component in the success of the BeagleBoard line, and we are excited to continue this relationship with BeagleBone Black.”

Similarly, Mouser is accepting orders for the BeagleBone Black.

“With the new enhanced features, the BeagleBone Black represents an excellent value and further accelerates the design engineer’s job of developing hardware and software applications for embedded systems quickly and cost effectively,” said  Russell Rasor, Mouser Electronics vice president of advanced technology.

”As the trend moves toward more highly integrated systems on a chip, having readily available, cost-effective tools to develop, prototype and test are crucial,” said Rasor.
