Aspiring electronics designers took part in a 30 hour hackathon at the Fab Lab London last weekend.
Fab Lab London is a purpose built digital fabrication and rapid prototyping workspace in the City of London.
It was created by business incubators Bathtub2Boardroom and the RSA Great Recovery initiative to provide aspiring designers and small companies access to digital fabrication tools, rapid hardware prototyping, 3D printing and sustainable design practices.
Designers from Resin.io hosted last weekend’s event providing LEDs, sensors, Raspberry Pi’s, Arduino’s and Beaglebone gear.
The designers were encouraged to make different hacks from the simple to the ambitious, including a working ‘Addams Family’ moving hand, a mobile boom box, Text to Speech demo, temperature triggered Webcam and spinning Christmas decoration gadgets.
The Fab Lab London is equipped with fabrication tools including laser cutters, 3D printers, milling machines, sewing machines, 3D scanners, traditional hand tools (saws, drills, hammers, chisels etc) and CNC machines.
In keeping with Fab Lab London’s ethos of encouraging sustainable design, RS Components has agreed to provide end of life products to the initiative.
