PRODUCT DETAILS
While the Raspberry Pi excels as a small yet powerful computer, it has some limitations when it comes to audio capabilities out of the box. It provides good-quality audio over HDMI but only lower-quality stereo sound through the 3.5mm jack. However, it cannot connect microphones or other external audio sources directly. The Wolfson Audio Card aims to solve this by adding functionality similar to a PC soundcard. Better yet, it was developed in partnership with Wolfson, a premier audio chip company known for superior sound quality.
The card is based on Wolfson’s WM5102 audio hub, a highly integrated low power chip used in smartphones, tablets, and other portable devices. It combines voice processing and a flexible digital signal processor to provide high-performance audio mixing and routing.
Key features include two stereo headphone drivers for hi-fi quality output. It also has stereo Class D speaker outputs, a dedicated earpiece output, and PDM for external amps. A signal generator supports haptics and vibrations can connect directly to outputs. All inputs, outputs, and interfaces can operate concurrently for wide flexibility. Overall, the Wolfson Audio Card expands the Raspberry Pi’s audio capabilities beyond its standard limitations, thanks to its development with industry leader Wolfson known for excellent sound quality.
