The manufacturer is EarthLCD of California, which is using the design to promote its unique long thin LCD – the EarthLCD-10.4-1024100.

To be made available, the open-source reference design includes metal work CAD files, display adapter board schematic and gerber files, software and firmware to build a 1U rack mount appliance around a Pi and that LCD.

“Using the Raspberry Pi allows us to get this incredible display into potential users’ hands fast and allow them to design high value internet appliances very rapidly by just adding their software and application specific I/O via USB or I2C interfaces,” said company CEO Randy Schafer.

Expected application include: network analysers, audio gear, video controllers, audio controllers, and music servers. “Rack mount equipment, such as power controllers, network hubs and routers, can now have a programmable front panel with colour LCD,” said the firm. “Running Debian Linux opens up the Pi-Raq standard network analyser software, music servers and numerous open source applications to be ported to the Pi-Raq.”

Bought from the company, it comes with a powder coated sheet metal enclosure and a jog wheel for user interface.

It has four USB ports and a 100MHz Ethernet. Operation is from 9-18V.

Pi-Raq files are due to be on Github by March 31st, the complete product will be $249, and the display on its own is $89.
